Match Report
Glenalmond College Boys-U18A vs  Merchiston Castle School
On: Thursday, 26 Sep 2019
Venue: Away

This was the first major competition for this year's team and was a four team tournament hosted by Merchiston. The Glenalmond team was fortunate in having a lot of new talent this season but it was quickly obvious that Strathallan, Merchiston and Tynecastle were also talented and well organised. Our first game was against a strong Strathallan team. We were focused right from the whistle and got off to a great start which gave us a slender lead we managed to hang on to despite late pressure from Strathallan.

Our next game against Tynecastle started badly as this was clearly a team who knew exactly how to capitalise on our mistakes and exploit them. With a deficit up to 16 points at one point it seemed we were out of the game. Greater focus brought us to within 10 points with three minutes on the clock. A well timed 3 pointer from Djordje cut it to seven and suddenly there was a glimpse of a chance. Taking whatever chances presented themselves we took possession 2 points down with 23 seconds to play. Moritz cut into space and grabbed a long ball from Djordje under the basket, sinking the shot to tie things up at 42-42.

This at least kept us with a chance of winning if we could overcome Merchiston in the final game which would decide the winner. Merchiston played some lovely basketball but the game was always within 3 points from start to finish. Fantastic rebounding from Jerry, Brian and Tristan kept us in contention and big baskets under pressure in the last 90 seconds saw us hang on to win 39-37.
